iStonsoft handles PDF encryption primarily through its standalone iStonsoft PDF Creator software. This program allows you to encrypt and password-protect your sensitive files while converting documents (like Word, Excel, or Text) into the PDF format.

The tool offers two main levels of security using 40-bit to 128-bit encryption keys. Step-by-Step Encryption Guide

Install and Launch: Download and open iStonsoft PDF Creator on your Windows or Mac computer.

Import Files: Click the Add Files or Add Folder button to load the sensitive document you want to secure. You can also drag and drop files directly into the program interface.

Access Settings: Look for the Settings or Options menu before initiating the conversion process. Navigate to the Security or PDF Protection tab.

Configure Passwords: You can choose between two distinct types of passwords:

User Password (Open Password): Check this option and type a password to completely block unauthorized users from opening or viewing the file.

Owner Password (Permissions Password): Check this option to allow others to read the document, but restrict them from editing, printing, or copying text and images.

Set Destination and Build: Choose an output directory via the Browse button, then click the Start or Create button. The software will output a newly encrypted, password-protected PDF file to your computer. Key Security Options Explained

User Password: Best used when sharing highly confidential information where only specific recipients should have access to read the contents.

Owner Password: Perfect for public or corporate distribution where you want people to read the file but need to prevent content tampering, plagiarism, or printing.

Encryption Depth: You can toggle settings between 40-bit RC4 (older, less secure) and 128-bit RC4/AES encryption (significantly more secure against brute-force attacks).

Note: If you already have a locked PDF and need to manage or remove its restrictions, iStonsoft offers a separate utility called iStonsoft PDF Password Remover.

If you run into any trouble with the setup, let me know which operating system you are using (Windows or macOS) and what specific file type you are trying to encrypt.
